For JRPG enthusiasts and video game historians, today brings a phenomenal piece of news. FuRyu, the publisher behind niche RPG hits like The Alliance Alive and Monark, has officially announced that the cult-classic 2013 game Exstetra is receiving a full HD Remaster. Crucially, the game is getting a global release with official English translation support for the very first time.
Originally developed by Studio Saizensen and launched in November 2013 exclusively in Japan for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS, Exstetra is a post-apocalyptic fantasy RPG. Despite its highly praised turn-based combat and gorgeous artwork, the game was never localized in the West, remaining a coveted import title for JRPG collectors. The new HD Remaster marks the end of this 13-year localization barrier, introducing full interface and subtitle support for English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese.
Exstetra is famous for its unique and quirky narrative premise. The game takes place in a world where Tokyo has merged with a dying, post-apocalyptic fantasy realm known as Prisma. The protagonist, Ryoma, is revealed to be the chosen Prisma, possessing the rare ability to save both worlds from complete destruction. To seal the spatial fusion and prevent a catastrophic collapse, Ryoma must share "miracles" with his companions by kissing them. Doing so awakens their hidden potential, transforming them into legendary Prisma Knights who can harness extraordinary combat powers.
FuRyu and the development team have rebuilt the game for modern screens:
- High-Definition Graphics: Fully updated, high-definition character models and beautifully upscaled 2D portraits preserving the original art style.
- Rebalanced Combat: Refined turn-based battle mechanics with modern Quality-of-Life features (including battle speed toggles and auto-save support).
- Stunning Soundtrack: Clean, remastered high-fidelity audio tracks showcasing the game's classic atmospheric OST.
- PC Worldwide Release: Launching first on PC via Steam on July 30, 2026.
- PlayStation 5 & Switch Development: Native console versions for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 are officially in active development. FuRyu has confirmed that console-specific release dates will be announced in the coming months as development wraps up.
